Accessibility
Last updated: May 8, 2026
PermitPrice is built to be usable by the widest possible audience. We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a working baseline.
What we do
- Static HTML. Pages are server-rendered HTML. Content is readable without JavaScript. Calculators and the theme toggle enhance the experience but do not gate it.
- Semantic structure. Pages use a single
h1, ordered headings, landmark regions (main, nav, footer), and a "skip to main content" link. - Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements are reachable and operable with the keyboard. Visible focus styles are preserved.
- Color contrast. Body text and UI text meet AA contrast in both light and dark modes against the Burnt Orange and Slate palette.
- Plain language. Permit fee math is explained in everyday English with worked examples, not just formulas.
- Mobile friendly. Layouts reflow at 375px without horizontal scroll. Tables stack or scroll within their container rather than breaking the page.
- Reduced motion. Decorative animation is minimal and degrades gracefully.
Known limits
- Source citations link to third-party government PDFs. The accessibility of those PDFs is set by the publishing agency, not by PermitPrice.
- Some fee tables are dense by design. We pair every table with a plain-language summary.
How to report a barrier
If you encounter a page that is hard to use with assistive technology, please send the URL and a short description of the issue to contact@permitprice.com. Accessibility-blocking issues are prioritized.
Standards we reference
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
- Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, where applicable.
- HTML Living Standard for semantics and ARIA usage.
